The time is now for youth. The new ones are coming forward leaving the old ones behind. The Pakistan cricket team is no exception. Sarfaraz Ahmed had come a long way behind old wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal. He has also led the team for a long time.
But now Sarfaraz Ahmed has no more days. The triumph now belongs to Mohammad Rizwan. The young wicketkeeper-batsman is the first choice behind the wicket in the Pakistan national cricket team. Even with an experienced cricketer like Sarfaraz Ahmed in the team, Mohammad Rizwan is securing a place in the XI.
However, the award for the best wicketkeeper in the just-concluded National Twenty20 Cup in Pakistan has sparked controversy. The controversy revolved around Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Akmal.
Champion Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was named the best wicketkeeper in the National Twenty20 Cup which ended on Sunday night.
Kamran Akmal has raised the question about this. He did not stop criticizing the PCB. Kamran claims that if he is rewarded on the basis of performance, he should get it himself. But it was not given to Mohammad Rizwan. He raised the question, on what basis was this award given to Mohammad Rizwan?
Standing behind the wicket, Kamran Akmal made maximum 11 dismissals. Besides taking 6 catches, he has also done 3 stampings. However, he was not given the award to 6 dismissed Mohammad Rizwan. Besides catching 6 catches, Rizwan has done 2 stampings.
However, the official statistics of the PCB mention four separate catches next to the name of Mohammad Rizwan. Which he did not catch as a wicketkeeper. The rule that the PCB usually follows is to calculate dismissal and outfielding figures separately.
Asked about this, Ahsan Negi, the PCB’s media manager for domestic cricket, said: “The award was given to Mohammad Rizwan primarily considering his contribution to his team becoming champions. He has played well as a regular fielder and wicketkeeper.
