Sophisticated technology will be used in waste management in countries like the developed world, said the local government minister. Tajul Islam.
The minister made the remarks while addressing an online workshop for mayors and engineers of the municipality on the work plan prepared by the secretariat for the management of municipal waste management from his office at the secretariat on Sunday (October 18).
The local government minister said advanced technology is being used in waste management in different countries of the world. The use of advanced technology is also being reviewed in Bangladesh. Necessary equipments will be brought in considering all the advantages and disadvantages of achieving the sustainable development goals and building a clean and tidy country.
Tajul Islam said, ‘All other types of waste including sewage and solid waste should be managed in such a way that the environment is not polluted. There is no harm to human health. Sophisticated technology will be used for this. The government will provide all the necessary logistical support to build a clean, environmentally friendly Bangladesh.
The local government minister listened to the problems from the municipal mayors and promised to solve them. At the same time, he asked the municipalities to increase their own income.
He said, ‘Bangladesh is a very densely populated country so the amount of waste is much higher. Nevertheless, there has been a lot of improvement in open waste management in the country. Not only in city corporations or municipalities, but also at the village level. In order to make the country prosperous, it is not necessary to just meet the economic indicators. Health, environment and other parameters have to be taken into consideration. That means overall development. We need to move forward by tackling all kinds of challenges to create a clean, healthy environment.
